What Is Being Looked For
At AO and AA level, Delivering at Pace means working with focus so tasks are completed on time and to a good standard. Your answer should show that you organised your work, followed the relevant rules and took responsibility for the quality of what you produced. The panel also wants to hear how you kept your manager or other people updated when priorities changed.
Use B-STAR to control the answer. Begin with a short belief about handling deadlines. Give enough situation and task detail for the panel to understand the pressure. Spend most of the answer explaining your own actions, then finish with a clear result. The guide describes the belief section as a chance to show how your mind works, so keep it relevant to the decisions that follow.
A weaker answer simply says you worked hard or stayed late. A stronger answer explains how you assessed urgency, broke work into steps, checked quality and raised problems early. Competing deadlines also give you a chance to show calm judgement. The panel should be able to follow why one task came first and how the remaining work was still completed.

I believe competing deadlines are best handled by deciding what is genuinely urgent, planning the work in clear stages and keeping people informed if priorities change.
While working as a fulfilment assistant for an online retailer, I was responsible for preparing same-day orders before the afternoon courier collection. On one shift, a large delivery arrived late and had to be checked into stock at the same time as a high number of customer orders were waiting to be packed. Both tasks had deadlines, and mistakes in either could lead to incorrect stock records or delayed orders.
I first checked the order queue and identified the parcels linked to paid next-day delivery. I separated those from standard orders and set a target to complete them before moving onto the remaining queue. I split the incoming delivery into smaller sections and checked one section between packing batches, which kept both deadlines moving.
I followed the stock-checking procedure for each item and recorded any damaged goods separately. When I found that two boxes had incorrect quantities, I told the shift supervisor immediately and asked another colleague to witness the recount. I gave the supervisor a progress update before the courier cut-off and confirmed which standard orders might need to move to the later collection.
All next-day orders were packed and collected on time. The delivery was recorded accurately before the end of the shift, and the quantity issue was resolved without affecting the live stock figure. My supervisor later used the same approach of alternating delivery checks with urgent packing during busy periods.
