Example Answer (Using B-STAR Method)
Belief: I firmly believe that teamwork is the cornerstone of achieving significant milestones. My conviction is that diverse skills and perspectives, when aligned towards a common goal, can produce innovative and efficient solutions to complex problems.
Situation: At my previous job, we were tasked with launching a new product within a very tight deadline. The project was critical for the company, aiming to position us ahead of our competition in the market. However, the project was behind schedule due to unforeseen technical challenges.
Task: As a member of the project team, my responsibility was to manage the design and implementation phase of the product. This involved coordinating between the development, design, and marketing teams to ensure that all aspects of the product launch were synchronized and met the project's quality standards and timeline.
Action: I initiated daily stand-up meetings to enhance communication and quickly address any roadblocks. I also facilitated a collaborative environment by encouraging team members to share ideas and solutions. Recognizing the tight deadline, I proposed and implemented a sprint-based approach to expedite the development process, breaking down the project into smaller, manageable tasks with specific deadlines. Additionally, I liaised with external stakeholders to secure additional resources and support to boost our project's progress.
Result: Thanks to the collective effort and the strategies we implemented, we completed the project two weeks ahead of the deadline. What the interviewer is testing
This question is looking for evidence that you can contribute to a shared outcome while still being clear about your own responsibility.
🤝 Collaboration: show how you worked with people rather than simply alongside them.
🧩 Your contribution: make clear what you personally added to the team.
💬 Communication: explain how you shared information, listened and dealt with differences.
🙋 Support: show where you helped another person or adapted to what the team needed.
✅ Shared result: finish with what the team achieved and how your contribution helped.
How to strengthen the existing answer
The current example includes clear coordination and a successful result. In your own answer, be careful that the example does not accidentally become a leadership answer if the question is specifically about teamwork.
Keep enough focus on how you worked with others: what information you shared, where you depended on somebody else's expertise and how the team adjusted together.
A stronger example answer
Belief: I believe good teamwork depends on people being clear about the shared outcome and using each other's strengths rather than duplicating effort.
Situation: I worked in a small team preparing a time-sensitive client report. The work needed input from operations, finance and data colleagues.
Task: My responsibility was to produce the operational section and make sure the figures and narrative matched the rest of the report.
Action: I agreed inputs and deadlines with the other contributors and shared an early draft so finance could check where my narrative depended on their figures. When a data issue emerged, I worked with the analyst to understand the limitation and adjusted the wording rather than presenting a number we could not support.
I also helped a colleague shorten one section that duplicated information elsewhere, which gave the team more time for the final review.
Result: The report was delivered on time with consistent figures and messaging. My contribution was the operational analysis, but the quality of the final product depended on the way we checked and supported each other's work.
